Eco Detection scientific advisory named #1 global water security think tank.

Griffith University’s Australian Rivers Institute has been named number one global water security think tank by the 2020 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report.   This prestigious award is international recognition of the institute’s work to improve the management of our freshwater resources through collaboration with decision makers and the broader community.

Professor David Hamilton, Deputy Director of the Australian Rivers Institute, is a Scientific Advisor in the commercialisation of Eco Detection- a revolutionary water quality testing technology using laboratory quality capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE) developed by Professor Michael Breadmore at the University of Tasmania. A world-first in water monitoring, Eco Detection uses sensor technology to deliver real-time data directly to water managers and experts.

Driven by Governments, environmental regulators and industry, there’s a worldwide demand for accurate real-time management of water quality. Current monitoring techniques require in-field sample and laboratory testing, which is expensive, not real-time and provides a single data point.  Eco Detection puts the laboratory in the field with solar powered autonomous operation where and when it’s needed, providing immediate accurate control for the management of our precious lakes and waterways.

Global recognition of the critical importance of water security has driven ‘the development of new tools to improve water management’ said Professor Hamilton.  The award as global think tank leaders acknowledge the expertise of Australian researchers as world leaders in water quality.  Eco Detection is a game changer and represents the future of water testing to accurately detect and protect our ecosystems and communities.
