Respiri appoints SRX Global to manufacture wheeze and asthma sensor

Grey Innovation, in collaboration with Respiri and Two Bulls, are proud to be developing the next generation of the world's first wheeze detection technology. Please read below for an article announcing the local manufacturer for Respiri. 

Respiri (ASX:RSH) has ticked off another key milestone – a manufacturing agreement with SRX Global, to produce its next generation breath and asthma wheeze detection sensor.

The sensor is the hardware component of Respiri’s pioneering asthma monitoring ecosystem.

According to Respiri, SRX Global is a leader in the fast-paced miniaturised electronic manufacturing marketplace, with a skilled labour force and vast state-of-the-art equipment housed in more than 23,000 square metres of facilities in Victoria and Malaysia.

BioMedTech Horizon program funds first in human trials to restore sight

The Government announced yesterday the first 11 recipients from the $35 million BioMedTech Horizons program.

The program aims to support the development of new and innovative technologies by Australian medical technology (MedTech) companies.

The first round of funding focused on precision medicine and 3D anatomical printing.

Successful projects in this first round include a fully synthetic 3D printed spinal cage, a genome profiling platform to enable precision cancer medicine, a wireless Brain-Machine Interface suitable for treating neurological disorders, and microwearables for precision medicine.

Ian Burgess, Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Technology Association of Australia said:

“MTAA is proud to be part of the BioMedTech Horizons program and supporting Australian innovation.

“Our Agreement with the Government to reform the Prostheses List has provided an additional $30 million towards the BioMedTech Horizons program and has doubled the funding available for these first recipients.

“Global advances in medical technology have resulted in a 56% reduction in hospital stays and a 16% drop in annual mortality over the past 20 years.

“This shows the significant value that medical technology can provide – saving lives, improving patients’ lives and saving costs to our health system.

“These exciting technologies that are being supported by the BioMedTech Horisons program can similarly lead to saving and improving lives, and contributing enormous value to the Australian health system.

“With an aging population comes major challenges for our health sector. MedTech will play a vital role in tackling these challenges and these 11 recipients, with a focus on precision medicine and 3D anatomical printing, will contribute towards improved health outcomes.”

Grey Innovation Germany receives letter of intent from German Government


Gilbert Michaca, CEO, Grey Innovation, met with the State Secretary of the Ministry for Economics, Labor and Health Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Dr. Stefan Rudolph, on Wednesday, 15 November 2017 for an official ceremony to receive a letter of intent for Grey Innovation Germany, bringing substantial financial support for its R&D activities.

The department will financially support Grey Innovation Germany for their R&D activities costs between 2018 and 2020. The Grey Innovation Group Board are currently reviewing a commercial vehicle supporting dementia and aim to have a business plan within the next 3-6 months, a time-frame that the Germany government agreed to.

Gilbert was in Germany attending the international medical fair in Duesseldorf - Medica 2017. Medica is the world’s biggest medical trade fair and the international leading specialist trade fair for the supplier market for the medical technology industry.

Grey Innovation Awarded Global Innovation Linkages Grant

Grey Innovation is one of nine Australian businesses and research organisations to be awarded grant funding under the Global Innovation Linkages program. This program aims to strengthen global collaboration, build Australia’s research capacity, increase the commercialisation of research outcomes, and boost Australia’s innovation and international competitiveness.  

Under this program, Grey Innovation in collaboration with Charles Sturt University, the University of Rostock, and the DZNE (German Centre for Neurodegenerative Diseases), are furthering the development of a wearable system for the monitoring of physiological and behavioural parameters associated with Alzheimer’s disease. The wearable system will support people who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease and their care givers by providing remote monitoring of disease progression, allowing the efficacy of treatments to be objectively measured and informing more effective management strategies and personalised care.

Worldwide there are more than 46 million people who suffer from dementia, a figure which is predicted to rise to 135 million by 2050. The most common form of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease, affecting more than 70% of people with dementia. Globally, the total cost of dementia is estimated at more than US$800 billion.

Congratulations to MedTech’s Got Talent 2016 finalists

Grey Innovation is a proud supporter and mentor of the annual MedTech’s Got Talent competition. The competition coaches medical device start-ups through innovation challenges, with the final teams winning up to $60,000. This year’s gala was enthusiastically opened by the Hon. Philip Dalidakis MP, Minister for Small Business, Innovation and Trade, who highlighted Victoria’s central place in Australia’s strong start-up culture. Congratulations to Grey’s two teams, and My Golgi, innovation in physiological monitoring, and Melbourne Rapid Fieldsbringing certified glaucoma eye testing into the home.

Grey’s ongoing commitment to sight restoration

With active projects in sight restoration with both the Bionic Eye Project [] and Glaucoma [], Grey Innovation was proud to support a team of 16 walkers to compete the 30km Coast Trek to raise funds for the Fred Hollows Foundation. The team joined over 1900 other walkers to raise $1.4 Million to "see a world in which no person is needlessly blind and Indigenous Australians exercise their right to good health”. Congratulations Coastrek Chicks!

Grey Team receives B-HERT Commendation for Best Research Translation 2016

The TALI project, technology which assists children with attention disabilities [], was awarded a special commendation for Best Research Translation 2016 at the recent B-HERT awards. This project was commended for the effective commercialisation of research and on the strong working relationship between Industry and Research, encompassing Grey Innovation, Torus Games and Monash School of Psychological Sciences. TALI is an interactive gaming program which assists children with developmental disabilities, such as  autism and Down Syndrome, to stay focused, and has brought together cognitive neuroscience, professional gaming, and sophisticate data analytics.

The Bionic Eye project is set to perform their first human trials this year, as recently reported in New Scientist. This breakthrough technology will assist in restoring vision in people without a working retina; “you don’t need an eyeball at all” says Professor Arthur Lowery from Monash University. A camera mounted on a pair of glasses feeds information directly to the brain via an implant placed directly on the area of the brain that process visual signals. This world-first cortical implant has the potential to benefit up to 85% of the clinically blind.

Australian volunteers who have recently lost their sight due to injury will be initially targeted for the trial.

TALI Finalist in National Innovation Awards

TALI, innovative technology tackling childhood inattention, has been chosen as a finalist in the annual The Australian Innovation Challenge awards. This world first tablet technology is designed to assist children with developmental disabilities, such as autism spectrum disorders and Down syndrome, stay focused, and is aimed at facilitating learning and inclusion within the school environment. The news was announced in The Australian over the weekend with finalists awarded on Wednesday 25th November. Professor Kim Cornish, Director of the Monash Institute of Cognitive and Clinical Neurosciences, said that the awards recognised how technologies can revolutionise the ways all children are taught. “TALI is a real game changer as it assists children with developmental disabilities who often get left behind in traditional education settings,” she said.
